The Edgemere Experience

For outside events we serve from a 6×12 trailer that is powered by lithium ion batteries.
This allows us to be energy self-sufficient without creating any noise or emissions.

For inside events we serve from a cart.
Having both the trailer and cart gives us operational versatility and allows us to accommodate a multitude of venue and client needs.

While the property will be available for events all year round, the garden is at its most beautiful from late July through early October (or until the first frost). Origin Story

In the words of owner Zack Buttaccio

Before I started Edgemere Coffee I was still working at the VA and my plan was to do it on the weekends to offset the monotonous, unfulfilling government job that I had and to do something that I enjoyed to feel excited about life again. The eight months before I started Edgemere Coffee was the darkest period of my life, and it was this experience that gave me no choice but to pursue it.

Kelly and I met at the VA in 2016 working in a medical billing call center. I started in May and she started in September. We were in the same room together with two other employees and in between calls we formed a friendship and camaraderie through dick jokes and dark humor. In November 2023 Kelly recognized pretty quickly I wasn’t the same person I was when we were cracking jokes in between calls. I was working from home at this point and she would stop by a couple times a week to check up on me. The focal point of our hangouts was the lattes I made us every time she came over. Sometimes I made her four within a two hour window, and despite the elevated heart rate and anxiety that much caffeine gave her, she welcomed it because she saw that it was the one thing that distracted me from the darkness. I remember telling her one day when she was over, “I just want to make coffee all day for people.”

In the spring of 2024 I did a few pop-ups on Saturdays at a local bookstore. This gave me a feel for making coffee for strangers, and I loved it. That April I transferred to a new department at the VA working onsite. I was trying to make VA employment feel the way it used to for me, but it wasn’t working anymore. The pop-ups at the bookstore were fun, but I was only serving 12-15 customers a day and making less than $100. Kelly knew, probably before I did, that my time with the VA was nearing its end and if I left I would need something more lucrative than the bookstore gig. In early July of that year she sent me the application for Canandaigua’s Downtown Art and Music Festival. The idea of serving a potentially larger crowd was exciting. The deadline had passed, but we showed up to the BID and pleaded our case. We were accepted. In order to be an eligible vendor, I needed a certificate of authority to collect sales tax, business insurance, and a logo on the trailer. The week prior to the event I was somehow able to get all of these things completed. We were in. I had planned on doing the event by myself, but I remember Kelly saying, “You’re going to need help. I’ll come with you.”

The Canandaigua Art and Music Festival is a three day event. Friday was kind of slow, but Saturday and Sunday were nonstop and it was then that I realized there was real potential for a business. The following week I resigned from the VA and Edgemere Coffee has been booked almost every weekend since.

If I liked numbers and statistics this is where I would include those to illustrate how many coffees we’ve made since we started. All I know is it’s been a shit ton and I can’t believe I’m actually making coffee all day for people for a living now.
